2-D Polygons and Pinball Machines
Students were asked to use tangrams to help them design a pinball machine that included the seven tangram shapes, symmetry, and new shapes created by combining polygons. They were also asked to track their expenses on a budget sheet to ensure that the creation of their pinball machine was less that $750. Students summarized their learning by elaborating on their pinball machine design, how it works, and the way they figured out the cost to create it.
This activity was taken directly from C-MAPP in the 2nd Grade Enrichment Unit.
Multiplication, Division and The Business Plan
Students are encouraged to use their multiplication and division skills to determine how to divide their available hours amongst their 5 employees, figure out how much each employee will make a week. They will also determine how much money they will have left over from their profits once they have paid all of their employees.
